Perfect for kitchens, bathrooms, and other rooms with moisture

Why Choose Tile?

Kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry rooms—you spend some much time every day in these rooms, so you certainly require a stylish design.  Carpet and hardwood offer a variety of beautiful designs, but they are, of course, not suitable for high moisture areas.  How do you balance both design and function?  Tile is the answer. Unlike hardwood and carpet, tile does not absorb water.  In other words, it can get wet.  Also, tile is extremely strong and durable, so it can withstand most drops and heavy foot traffic.  It is therefore no surprise that tile is the most practical, and probably the most popular, choice in kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry rooms.

Ceramic tile is the most widely-used type of tile.  It is available in a plethora of different shapes, sizes, and colors, so it can accommodate any room and any design that you have in mind.  Also, ceramic tile is water and heat resistant, and it will not fade or stain over time.  Floor tiles are thicker to handle foot traffic and potential drops, but all ceramic tiles, including the thinner wall and backsplash tiles, are extremely durable.  As a result, ceramic tile is considered a permanent option.

Even given ceramic tile’s durability, it is not recommended for outdoor use.  Instead, we recommend porcelain tile.  Porcelain tile is denser than ceramic tile, which means that it has even more strength.  It also is more water resistant.  Therefore, porcelain tile is prepared for anything that Mother Nature throws its way.  It's worth noting, however, that porcelain tile is more difficult to install than ceramic style.

For both aesthetic and functional reasons, tile can be layered on top with a glaze.  Glazed tile has more color and shine, so it definitely can stand out in any room.  Plus, the glaze protects against water and stains.  Tile can remain unglazed, which actually is preferred for commercial use.  Unglazed tile does not show wear and is slip resistant, so it’s most useful in areas with high traffic.

Where can tile be used?  Tile can be installed in kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and other areas with moisture.  Plus, unlike other flooring options, tile is suitable for walls, backsplashes, showers, and other areas.  Learn more about the different tile types.
